Day 01 South Africa – Panorama Route

  This South Africa tour starts once we leave Johannesburg and we drive directly towards the Greater Kruger National Park area, travelling through the lush Mpumalanga province. We will arrive at our accommodation and will receive a full briefing on what awaits us on our journey ahead.
Included Activities: South African Dinner & Traditional Dancing, Bourke’s Luck Potholes, Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window (may be on day 2)

Day 02 Kruger National Park

  Today we will travel along the Panorama Route, stopping for breath taking views at Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and Bourke’s Luck Potholes. We will return to our camp within the greater Kruger NP in the afternoon. This evening you will have the opportunity to take an optional evening game drive (safari).
Optional Activities: Morning Bush Walk – Nkambeni Reserve, Evening Game Drive – Nkambeni Reserve in open 4×4

Day 03 Kruger National Park

  This morning head into the world famous Kruger National Park and immediately begin our first game drive (safari) in our truck. Truly the flagship of the South African national parks, Kruger is home to an impressive number of species: 336 trees, 49 fish, 34 amphibians, 114 reptiles, 507 birds and 147 mammals. This includes the famous Big 5. Today you have the opportunity of experience Kruger in an optional open 4×4 safari vehicle. Should you choose not participate in the 4×4 game drive activity, your guide will take you on a game drive through the park, in the overland truck.

Day 04 Swaziland – Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary

  The Kingdom of Swaziland is a landlocked country bordered by South Africa and Mozambique. Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary is Swaziland’s oldest reserve and covers 4,560 hectares. As there are no large predators in this area there are a number of self-guided hikes available. Hiking is an excellent way of interacting with the flora and fauna here and comes highly recommended.
Optional Activities: Game drive – Mlilwane (min 2 clients)

Day 05 Isimangaliso, Greater St Lucia

  We leave Swaziland and take a scenic drive towards the warm Indian Ocean coast, re-entering South Africa on our way to the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, this UNESCO recognized area is extremely varied and includes: lakes, beaches, coral reefs, wetlands, woodlands, coastal forests and grasslands together supporting an astounding diversity of animal, bird and marine life. In the afternoon we will participate in a Zulu Cultural Evening. During the experience, we will sample the local beer, made from the local Ilala Palm, unique to the Zululand area and will be taught the basic Zulu language, how to greet, count and learn about the family traditions.

Day 06 Hluhluwe – Umfolozi Game Reserve

  This morning we drive to the Hluhluwe-Imfolozi Game Reserve for a game drive (safari) in open 4×4 vehicles. The park is the only state-run park in the province of KwaZulu-Natal where all the Big Five occur. On the afternoon we return to iSimangaliso Wetland Park where we board a boat for a sunset cruise on the lagoon for some bird and hippo viewing!

Day 07 Durban

  Today we arrive at Durban, South Africa’s largest marine port and well-known surfing destination. The evening can be spent enjoying authentic Indian cuisine as Durban is also home to the largest population of people of Indian descent outside of India.

Day 08 UKhahlamba Drakensberg Park

  We leave behind the beautiful beaches of KwaZulu Natal and travel inland to the Ukhahlamba Drakensberg or Royal Natal National Park, part of the huge and incredibly scenic Drakensberg Escarpment. The Drakensberg is South Africa’s highest mountain range with peaks at over 3000 metres. Hiking is the most popular activity here and your guides will take you on a lovely hike if you are not already busy with other optional activities.

Day 09 UKhahlamba Drakensberg Park

  Today we will be going on a guided hike to see some of the san rock paintings in the area. The hike will be with your guide in the Royal Natal National Park.

Day 10 Lesotho – Malealea

  It’s a visually impressive drive up to the Lesotho border. Lesotho is one of the highest countries in the world, with the entire country being over 1000m above sea level.

Optional Activities: Pony Trekking

Day 11 Lesotho – Malealea

  Today we get up early and those who opt to go on the optional Pony Trekking Excursion will ride into the remote hills of Lesotho accompanied by local guides. On your return, the group will visit the local village.

Day 12 South Africa – Cintsa

  Leaving the ‘Kingdom in the Skies’ behind us we travel south to Cintsa. We will spend the night here and will enjoy a traditional meal tonight.

Day 13 Greater Addo Elephant National Park

  Today we will continue our journey through the Eastern Cape towards the Addo Elephant National Park, the third largest national park in South Africa and home to over 600 elephant, lion, buffalo, black rhino, spotted hyena, leopard and a variety of antelope. This afternoon we will enjoy a game drive through Addo NP (this game drive could take place the following morning). Our accommodation is located just outside the Addo NP on a private game lodge.

Day 14 Addo Elephant Park

  This morning we will spend some time driving through the Addo Elephant NP in our overland truck in search of the elephants and animals which reside in the park. Our truck gives us an elevated view on our game drive, particularly for those photographic enthusiasts amongst us.

Day 15 Tsitsikamma National Park

  This morning we will enjoy a game drive through the Addo Elephant NP, from the comfort of our truck (this game drive may take place in the afternoon on day 1, time permitting). After Addo, it’s off to Tsitsikamma, means ‘place of abundant water’ and it does not disappoint, with its indigenous forests and dramatic coastline. This area is home to the famous multi-day Otter Trail hike and the first few hours of this hike is included in your tour.

Day 16 Storms River Village

  As today is open for you to explore the small village of Storms River, why not spend your time participating in the optional activities available such as blackwater tubing, jumping the highest bungee jump in the world at Bloukrans or discover the Tsitsikamma rainforest from above by joining one of the treetop canopy tours on offer.

Day 17 Heart of Garden Route

  Today we travel to Heart of the Garden Route and upon arrival in Plettenberg Bay, your guide will brief you on the various optional activities on offer here. The afternoon will be spent enjoy the optional activities.

Day 18 Oudtshoorn

  The morning will be at leisure to enjoy any additional activities you may want to participate in. We depart Plettenberg bay and enjoy a short stop in the town of Knysna where you will have the opportunity to explore. We travel through the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains towards Oudtshoorn where we visit the world-famous Cango Caves. The caves contain spectacular halls and grand limestone formations, and a local guide will tell you all about the cave system, which extends for over 4km.

Day 19 Oudtshoorn to Somerset West

  We take a scenic drive to Somerset West, taking in some of Route 62 and a possible stop at Ronnie’s Shop… a rather interesting country pub… Tonight you will have the opportunity to have a final meal out together with your group and one of the local restaurants.

Day 20 Somerset West – Cape Town

  We make our way to the University town of Stellenbosch where you will have the chance to explore this unique town on foot. After our time in Stellenbosch, we will travel to a local wine farm for some cheese and wine tasting.
Then it’s onto Cape Town. Those who have opted to participate in the Cape Town culture tour activity package item will be collected from the Cape Town office and begin the tour with a cultural exploration of Cape Town from District Six, to the informal settlements of Langa and Khayelitsha, where traditional healers and shebeens add to the rich culture of township life. Whilst the townships are often the sites of poverty, they are also places of vibrancy and creativity.
The cultural tour is operated by a local Cape Town provider and therefore this Activity Package item will be operated in smaller vehicles. If you are not participating in the Cape Town Cultural Tour activity, your tour comes to an end upon arrival at the Cape Town office.

This tour is offered in two travel styles:

  Camping: Clients mostly overnight in comfortable two-man dome tents, with built in mosquito nets and of course a mattress… and a couple of nights are upgraded to budget rooms.
